IRORI ROOM-- block out

I don't think you know just how much it blows my mind to already be making things like this.  It's Week 2 of 10 in the 1st of 8 quarters, and I'm already impressing myself.  3D is all so new and fascinating to me right now, and I'm loving every second I spend in it.  And working in Maya (or trying to figure it out as a noob) is like solving a bunch of mysteries.  ALL THE TIME.  Which is also incredibly entertaining and fascinating.  Anyway!  First step in my Intro to Maya class at Gnomon: blocking out an interior of my choice.  I found this awesome picture of a traditional style Japanese irori (sunken hearth) room, and am dying to see how far I can really take this in a render.  3D is so limitless, especially with the knowledge that there is an INCONCEIVABLE amount of information I don't even know that I don't know, everything is exciting and surprising.  Long story short-- if you can't tell-- I'm loving this.

Also, I haven't painted in a while, and have been dying to, so here's what I managed to squeeze into a half hour before I crash for bed:
